Extraversion is a fundamental personality trait in the study of psychology and is recognized as one of the Big Five personality dimensions. Individuals who score high on Extraversion are more likely to show behaviors associated with: warmth, gregariousness, assertiveness, activity, excitement seeking & positive emotion.

Prevalence: approximately 1 in 4 people are high scorers for 'extraversion' (extraverts) and 1 in 4 people are low scorers, which represents 'introversion' (introverts); additionally, 1 in 2 people score between 'extraversion' & 'introversion', which represents 'ambiversion' (ambiverts).

One study has indicated that the Big Five dimension Extraversion has a strong positive correlation with 'hand flux' + a strong positive correlation with 'hand distance' (source: G. Luck et al., 2010).

Another study points out that Extraversion correlates positive with moving the hands away from the body + gesture rate, which includes movements of the hands (source: M. Neff et al., 2010).
